Drug Screening and Protein Aggregation Assays - Cambridge - Salary up to £70000 Your new companyOur client is a top drug discovery and development company developing breakthrough medicines for the treatment of major neurodegenerative diseases. Our client's platform allows them to directly target the toxic oligomeric protein aggregates which lie at the centre of neurodegeneration in diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS.Your new role

  • Lead in-vitro drug discovery projects and experiments
  • Perform and optimise protein production, purification and aggregation assays, including but not limited to, fluorescence-based assays
  • Design, implement and optimise protocols for studying the effect of small molecule inhibitors on protein aggregation and determine their mechanism of action
  • Perform and analyse data from a range of experiments including but not limited to, molecular biology, biochemistry (ELISA, Western blot, SDS-page), robotics-assisted automated high-throughput kinetics experiments, western blots
  • Design and perform biochemical and biophysical assays to study protein-protein, protein-lipid, and protein-small molecule interactions
  • Drive and maintain high standards for data generation and collaborate with Wren's Data & Analytics team for data analysis and implementing data automation processes and pipelines

What you'll need to succeed

  • PhD in physical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline, at a leading academic institution, and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in characterising proteins, lipids and small molecules using biochemical and biophysical techniques.
  • Experience with Akta purification systems and protein characterisation using, but not limiting to, optical spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE analysis and western blots.
  • Experience with chromatography techniques, such as affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography.
